What is a stainless steel plate (SUS plate)?
A stainless steel plate (SUS plate) is, as the name suggests, a plate made of stainless steel.
Just as there are many different types of stainless steel, there are many different types of stainless steel plates depending on the type of material and finish.
Types of stainless steel plates (SUS plates) and general plate thickness
The main types of stainless steel plates on the market are:
- SUS304 2B
- SUS304 No.1
- SUS304 HL
- SUS304 #400
- SUS430
“2B” and “No.1” attached after the stainless material name refer to the surface finish.
There are various types, such as those with a glossy finish like a mirror surface and those with anti-slip processing.
SUS304 2B
It is a type of stainless steel plate of the most common austenitic stainless steel. After the second cold rolling process in the manufacturing process, it is finished with a method called skin pass rolling (temper rolling) that gives it a moderate gloss (Bright in English), so it is named “2B”. .
Most commercially available stainless steel plates are 2B.

SUS304 No.1
It is a stainless steel plate finished by hot rolling, which is silvery white and has no surface gloss. After hot rolling, it is finished by annealing and pickling.
It is often used in applications that do not require surface gloss.

SUS304 HL(hairline)
It is a stainless steel material with polishing grains in a certain direction and a continuous surface finish like a hair. Most commonly used as a building material.
2B and No. 1 materials are polished continuously in one direction with a polishing belt or the like to finish the surface.

SUS304 #400
Stainless steel plate A stainless steel plate with a 2B finish polished with a P400 buff. It has a beautiful mirror-like finish, and is characterized by a slight streak that gives it a subdued luster.
It is used in a wide range of industries such as decorations, building materials, kitchen utensils, and medical wagons.

SUS430
“SUS430” is called ferritic stainless steel, which is inexpensive and used in a wide range of applications, and is highly corrosion-resistant and easy to process.
SUS430 is also called “18 chromium stainless steel” because it is composed of 18% chromium and iron.
It does not contain nickel and has inferior performance compared to SUS304, but because it is resistant to rust, it is used in kitchens and kitchen utensils, interiors and exteriors of buildings, electrical appliances, automobile parts, etc.

Difference between SUS304 and SUS430
SUS304 is classified as austenitic stainless steel, and SUS430 is classified as ferritic stainless steel.
- Austenitic stainless steel
It is difficult to break, sticky, and has excellent weldability, making it easy to process. It is resistant to both low and high temperatures and has high corrosion resistance.
