Conventional abrasives can be further divided into alumina-based and silicon carbide-based types.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Alumina abrasives (also known as alumina or aluminum oxide) are commonly used for materials such as steel and hardened steel, while silicon carbide abrasives (carborundum) are suitable for stone and cast iron.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Below are examples of typical abrasive grains.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>A (Brown Fused Alumina) &#8211; Also known as standard A-type alumina abrasive. Typically used for hardened steels, alloy steels, tool steels, and stainless steels requiring fine finishing.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>PA (Pink Fused Alumina) &#8211; Offers greater toughness than WA and provides superior shape retention. Suitable for grinding alloy steels, special steels, tool steels, and gears.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>C (Black Silicon Carbide &#8211; Known as standard C-type abrasive, used for non-ferrous metals and cast iron. It is harder and more friable than A-type abrasives.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>GC (Green Silicon Carbide) &#8211; A high-purity form of silicon carbide. Commonly used for cemented carbide, hard alloys, and special cast irons.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"tadv-color\" style=\"color:#000000\">Steps in the Polishing Process<\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p id=\"block-b20b4e47-dbd8-405b-9e60-902d9595576a\">The polishing process is generally divided into three main stages: rough polishing, intermediate polishing, and final finishing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Rough polishing uses relatively coarse abrasive grains to remove larger surface irregularities.<br>Intermediate polishing follows, using finer abrasives to further smooth the surface.
